The 1000 mile race is named after the character in the book.  Llewelyn is a Vietnam vet who flees with $2 million dollars in drug money that he finds in a Texas field.

 

The 1000 mile distance gives an alternative to all the 500 mile racers that want a new challenge and at the same time provide an unprecdented RAAM training race.

Have you ever ridden River Road?  Heck, have you ever driven River Road?  Hwy 170 between Presidio and Lajitas is considered to be one of the most scenic drives in America. 

 

Now it is part of the NCOM 1000 mile route.  Find those little gears and get ready for one of the most challenging rides of your racing history.  Although the route changes each year the scenery in this area is as breaktaking in its beauty as it is challenging to complete. You have to ride it to believe it.

 

With 48,000+ vertical feet of climbing, the NCOM 1000 is surely the most challenging 1000 miles in America.  Are You Rugged Enough?

The NCOM 1000 mile, is a RAAM Qualifying race.  All solo racers who complete the race within the 96 hour time limit will be RAAM Qualified
